Betekenis teken

Een teken is een woord, gebaar, voorwerp of andersoortige betekenisdrager die verwijst naar een betekenis. De semiotiek, de wetenschap die tekens bestudeert, onderscheidt drie soorten tekens: de index, de icoon en het symbool. Vaak wordt het teken geheel weggelaten. Een kruisje wordt op scholen onderwezen maar wordt door wiskundigen niet gebruikt. Bij het vermenigvuldigen van vectoren geeft het kruisje het kruisproduct aan en de vermenigvuldigingspunt het inwendig product.
